Small glacial lakes, called ibones, can be found throughout the Pyrenean territory. Located at high altitudes and surrounded by tall and steep peaks, they form an impressive natural and scenic spectacle. Despite often being found in hard-to-reach places, they attract thousands of tourists who wish to rest on their shores.

Ibón de Acherito, the westernmost of the Aragonese ibones, stands out both for its uniqueness and for the beauty of its location. The combination of a pristine lake, surrounded by wide and sunny valleys, wild nature, and beautiful mountains reflected in its crystal-clear waters, makes it one of the most picturesque spots in the Echo Valley.

Itinerary

Excursion to Ibón de Acherito. Glacial lake, megalithic remains and wild Pyrenean nature. Circular route

We will head to the village of Siresa, in the Jacetania region in the Natural Park of the Western Valleys in the Aragonese Pyrenees. We will cross the impressive forests of the Selva de Oza until we reach La Mina parking lot, located in the Guarrinza meadow. The Aragón Subordán River Valley hosts the highest concentration of megalithic monuments in the entire Pyrenees. It is an exceptional place, of great scenic and cultural value. Here we will leave our cars and start the route.

We will take a small path that skirts the Barranco d'as Foyas. We will quickly gain elevation and after half an hour we will reach a crossroads. From here we will follow the famous HPR trail (High Pyrenean Route), which crosses the entire Pyrenean mountain range from the Cantabrian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. Crossing the large high mountain meadows, we will have the opportunity to observe numerous herds of cows and horses grazing on its slopes. We will be accompanied by an impressive panoramic view of the entire Aragón Subordán valley, with the beautiful Selva de Oza and the most emblematic peaks of the area: Peñaforca, Lenito, Puntal de Lenito, Castillo de Acher and even Bisaurín. We will pass just below the Mallo Cristian and the Rayas de las Foyas, rock formations located on the border between France and Spain.
