"The world reveals itself to those who travel on foot, unveiling its hidden wonders and secrets with each step taken. As we traverse landscapes at a walking pace, we connect intimately with our surroundings, allowing nature's intricate details and the essence of diverse cultures to unfold before our eyes. This slow, deliberate journey not only exposes us to the physical beauty of our planet but also opens our minds to new perspectives and deeper understanding of the world we inhabit."
The Transpyrenean traverse is a long-distance trail that crosses the entire Pyrenean mountain range in about 800 kilometers, from the Cantabrian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea (or vice versa). The southern route of the trail (GR 11) starts in the Basque Country, at Cape Higuer near Hondarribia and ends at Cap de Creus north of Cadaqués, in Catalonia.
Its nearly 50 stages wind through the green mountains of Navarre, the great massifs of Aragon, the small villages of Andorra, and the impressive Mediterranean landscape of Catalonia. Its diversity and length allow hikers to choose the best option based on their experience or needs while visiting the most emblematic areas of the Pyrenees.
The GR11 trail allows you to explore the wildest and most idyllic places in the Pyrenees: Crossing large glacial cirques, extensive valleys, mountain passes, and lush forests full of wild nature; enjoying extraordinary views of its rugged peaks, numerous mountain lakes and tarns, powerful rivers and waterfalls, as well as meadows filled with livestock.
Additionally, along the way, we can visit idyllic villages and high mountain refuges where we can meet local inhabitants as well as other mountaineers with whom to share our experience.
Hiking the Pyrenean Trail or some of its stages will be a great adventure, unique and unforgettable. A demanding experience, but without technical difficulty, that will allow us to visit legendary places that we will remember for a lifetime.
