The excursion to Anayet peak is one of the most beautiful and impressive routes in the Pyrenees. The green high-mountain meadows with large blue lakes contrast with the red earth and black peaks surrounding them, guaranteeing a unique spectacle of colors and nature. A landscape formed by volcanoes, glaciers, and erosion over thousands of years.
On this impressive hike, we will discover the geological past of the Pyrenees and the Earth. We will climb the Culivillas Ravine to reach the stunning Ibones de Anayet, high-mountain lakes of glacial origin. We will pass through the valley completely covered by red earth to climb Pico Anayet, an ancient volcanic chimney and currently a volcanic neck, formed by andesite rock. We will enjoy a beautiful view of the entire area, Pyrenean mountains exceeding 3,000 meters, and the emblematic Midi d'Ossau Peak on the French side. Both peaks, Anayet and Midi d'Ossau, are the remains of ancient volcanoes formed in the Permian period 300 million years ago and well preserved to this day.
The Anayet area is the place where we can admire one of the most extraordinary landscapes in the Pyrenees.

The excursion starts at Corral de las Mulas (1,625 m.), 3 kilometers from Portalet. We will cross the Anayet Zone of the Formigal Ski Resort on a paved road. We'll take a small path following the white and red markings of the GR11 Trans-Pyrenean Route. Skirting the edge of the Culibillas Ravine, we'll continue towards the bottom of the valley. We'll pass at the foot of Culibillas peak, with views of some 3000-meter peaks behind us. We'll cross meadows with numerous herds of cows and horses. Accompanied by the sound of the stream, we'll enjoy this idyllic landscape.
